As heard on Clear Country Night’s; Samantha’s Artist of the Week is Drew Dixon!
Drew Dixon is a tall drink of soulful water!
Originally from Columbia, SC Drew grew up influenced by a mixture of Rock, Gospel and Soul music. This is thanks, in part, to his dad’s free spirited-ness and his mother’s more traditional church based upbringing.
Dixon moved to Nashville,TN about seven years ago to -what else?- delve further into the vibrant music scene.
He describes his sound as a mix of Delta Blues and Southern Gothic. I’ve never heard of this “Southern Gothic” genre, but to me – Dixon’s sound goes from an obviously Blues infused, deep tonality all his own, to almost reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Switching to more of the modern Country vein, I can even hear the slightest hint of Darius Rucker, too! (Maybe it’s a South Carolina thing?)
The year 2015 marked the release of Dixon’s first two singles, “Dead Man” and “All of My Pain”.
The following year Dixon played to sold out shows for acts like Chase Rice, LANco and Maren Morris’ new hubby, Ryan Hurd!
There’s no full length studio album out as of yet, that I can find but Dixon most recently released some new singles at the tail end of 2017, including “South Carolina”.
