Family Asks For Birthday Cards For WWII Vet Turning 100

Alvin “Bob” River will be 100 on Christmas day.

The WWII vet currently lives at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital here in Columbia. River’s family is asking for birthday cards to help mark his milestone day.

They share that River was drafted into the Army during WWII and served as a sergeant in Germany from 1946 to 1948. After the war, he went on a blind date, dancing and roller skating with a woman named Betty, who has been his wife for 66 years now.

The family hasn’t been able to visit with him due to COVID restrictions, but Bob just got a COVID vaccine, so that change in time for his birthday. He’s got two children and three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

If you’d like to send Alvin “Bob” River a card, the address is: Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital Attn: CLC Third Floor 800 Hospital Drive Columbia, Missouri, 65201.
