Road Trip Review: “Skeletons” – Brothers Osbourne

The boys are back with their third album, and it’s a thumper!

TJ and John Osborne had to jump a lot of hurdles to make their new album, Skeletons. In addition to the pandemic, they were dealing with some personal setbacks.  The boys talked about it recently on Good Morning America…

This is the first B.O. album I listened to, but the formula for these guys is simple.  Let John show off on guitar, and let TJ show off singing.  The guys are from Maryland, but there’s a lot of “southern rock” on this record.  It comes through on the rockers, but on the medium tempo songs too.

And my first impression was that these songs sounded like “concert songs”.  They were recorded in a studio obviously, but they really had a “live” feel to them.

Here’s some of the highlights for me:

  • Skeletons – “…you got skeletons in your closet, and I got bones to pick with them!” 😄
  • Back On The Bottle – This is a barroom sing-a-long, one of several on here that will be fun in concert after everybody learns the words.
  • Muskrat Greene – John’s pickin’ is featured on this instrumental, and it’s fantastic!  When I was a kid it wasn’t unusual to hear an instrumental on the radio, and a lot of them were big hits.  I kinda miss that!  Plus it then segues right into…
  • Dead Man’s Curve – That’s another thing that people used to do on albums a lot, one song going right into another.  This another big rocker that will be fun live.
  • Make It A Good One – I’m no good at picking radio hits, but I could hear this one on Clear 99.
  • Hatin’ Somebody – A fun anthem to getting along…
I may never like your shoes
You may never like mine
We may never be all cheers drinkin’ beers arm in arm singin’ Auld Lang Syne
But maybe we can meet somewhere in the middle
Like strings ‘tween a fiddle and a bow
You need a paddle on the left, a paddle on the right
‘Cause we’re all in the same damn boat
Hatin’ somebody ain’t never got nobody nowhere
It’s a bad seed to sow, it’s a dead end road when you go there
Makin’ any headway that way ain’t got no prayer, no prayer
Hatin’ somebody ain’t never got nobody nowhere

I dug it, see what you think!
