Watch Out For Lots of I-70 Traffic This Weekend

If you plan on traveling on I-70 this weekend, be prepared for it to take longer than usual!

State transportation officials are warning about SIGNIFICANT delays at the Sorrels overpass over I-70, just west of Columbia.

MoDOT says demolition of the heavily-damaged overpass will begin on Friday night at 9 p.m.

There will be times when the eastbound OR westbound I-70 lanes will need to be closed for 15-minute intervals, if crews determine it’s too dangerous for vehicles to travel under the construction zone.

MoDOT also notes that thousands of people are heading to Columbia this weekend for state cross country championships, and many others will be driving to Kansas City for Sunday afternoon’s Chiefs game.

MoDOT is also warning you to avoid I-70 near Kingdom City this weekend, as there have been SIGNIFICANT delays at mile marker 153, at the westbound Auxvasse creek bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane AROUND THE CLOCK, and MoDOT says afternoon delays are the most significant.
