Sawdust Pie

It’s another Old Church Lady Cookbook recipe. – scotty

To me it sounded like something our grandmas learned how to make from their grandmas. But it’s not that old, honestly.

It was created in 1977 by a lady in Kentucky, that made it for her ice cream shop. It gets it’s funny name from the ingredients that look like sawdust in the pan before baking.

It’s simple too, just egg whites and a cup and a half of four ingredients…sugar, graham cracker crumbs, shredded coconut and pecan pieces.

See what you think…

SAWDUST PIE

Ingredients:

  • 7 egg whites (or 4 whole eggs for a richer, gooier filling)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust

Instructions: Simply mix the wet and dry ingredients together, pour into your unbaked pie shell, and bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes until the top is golden brown and set.
