Road Trip Review: “Desperate Man” – Eric Church

“The Chief” is back with new music!

(As always, music appreciation is subjective and these are just my opinions. – Scotty)

After my first run through this album, my first thought was this.  Superstars are superstars for a reason.  They’re just better.  Their songs are better, their music is better, and their albums are better.

In the last few years there have been several times that I listened to an album from a new artist because I really liked their debut singles, and in the end that particular song was the only thing that stood out on the whole album.

But Eric Church just brings it every time.  I don’t really consider myself a huge Church fan, but his albums are ALWAYS really good and this one is no exception.

Highlights for me:

  • Monsters – neat lyrics co-written by Eric.  Starts out as a kid talking about whats in his room at night, then grows up and learns “…that the monsters aren’t the ones under the bed.”
  • Hippie Radio – Name checks a lot of songs from his, and my youth.
  • Hangin’ Around – Funky.
  • Snakes – A rattlesnake and a copperhead talking trash.

I just highly enjoyed the whole thing, and will keep in the regular rotation on my phone.  Give it a listen, let me know what you think!
